Frequently Asked Questions

Locum Tenens is a temporary contract position for medical professionals. Rather than being a permanent w-2 employee, a Locums provider would serve as an independent contractor for a range of time. This could be anything from a few hours to several years. Locum tenens are physicians or advanced practitioners who fill-in at facilities around the country during times of high need, vacations, or when a facility is short-staffed due to lapses in coverage.

Locum Care has positions in a variety of facilities including hospital systems, hospitals, specialty clinics, VA hospitals, government jobs, urgent care facilities, single and multi-specialty practices, and more.

No problem, our experienced Locum Care recruiters will help you get licensed in the state where you want to work. During the licensing and credentialing period, we can put you to work in the states where you are currently licensed. Once your new license comes in, we’ll make sure you get to your preferred location. We’ll even pay all of your licensing fees. In addition, the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact can put you to work much faster, with dramatically reduced turnaround times for state licenses. We can assist you in securing a license for any state in which you’d like to work

Yes. Our medical liability coverage is occurrence-based and carries the highest ratings possible: A.M. Best’s and Standard & Poors rating.

While there are many advantages to working in locum tenens, you are an independent contractor and are not eligible for employee benefits. However, you are eligible for a great deal of other benefits that come with working as an independent contractor. Consult a tax professional for more details.

It depends on the client’s needs and your preference, but generally no unless otherwise agreed. Locum Care will arrange your travel and housing with our in-house travel and housing department and the costs will be paid by the facility where you will provide services. This excludes situations where the locum tenens provider lives locally.
